The MUD 8 Board has authorized street work to begin on Browning Drive and Thoreau Drive to improve storm sewer street inlets. This is the beginning of such work over various areas of MUD 8 to improve storm water drainage to the lake. This work is a direct result of the recent MUD 8 engineering study. Improvements to the stormwater drainage system will continue throughout 2017.
- The MUD 8 Board reviewed the status of improvements to storm sewer inlets (Inlets) within MUD 8. In January, three (3) Inlets were enlarged on Thoreau and two (2) on Browning. Five (5) more Inlets are scheduled to be enlarged in February.
- The Board also reviewed the application for renewal of the Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) Permit. New Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) permitting requirements force the MUD 8 to reduce the phosphorous levels of the treated wastewater discharged by the WWTP into Lake Conroe. As a result, MUD 8, in partnership with MUD 9, must make substantial improvements to the WWTP. Once the improvements are completed, the WWTP will comply with the new TCEQ regulations and have an increased treatment capacity of 1.25 million gallons per day, which will provide for the long term growth of Walden. Design of the improvements, which will be located on the existing WWTP site, is currently underway. Clearing of a 1.5 acre portion of the 6-acre WWTP site is expected to begin in late March or early April 2017.
- Hays North Utility will begin its annual fire hydrant flushing program throughout Walden later this month. Be advised that there may be some temporary discoloration of your water.
