Storm drainage issues continue to be a major topic at the MUD 8 meetings. The engineers presented an overall schedule for completing design, obtaining funding, bidding and construction of improvements to be 12-14 months after a notice to proceed. The MUD 8 Board and their consultants continue to actively work on these improvements.

The application for renewal of the Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) Permit is still pending approval. New Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) permitting requirements force the MUD 8 to reduce the phosphorous levels of the treated wastewater discharged by the WWTP into Lake Conroe. As a result, MUD 8, in partnership with MUD 9, must make substantial improvements to the WWTP. Once the improvements are completed, the WWTP will comply with the new TCEQ regulations and have an increased treatment capacity of 1.25 million gallons per day, which will provide for the long-term growth of Walden. Design of the improvements, which will be located on the existing WWTP site, is currently underway. Clearing of a 1.5 acre portion of the 6-acre WWTP site is expected to begin in late May or early June 2017.

Fire Hydrants – the annual fire hydrant flushing program throughout Walden was completed. There are a number of repairs and maintenance to fire hydrants that will be made over the next month.
